Action Score

The Action Score measures how exciting a fighter's bouts are. It captures striking volume, knockdowns, submission attempts, pace, and fighting style — while penalizing stalling tactics like lay-and-pray or point fighting.
Scores range from 0 to 100. Higher scores mean the fighter consistently delivers entertaining fights.
Two Levels: Bout Action and Fighter Action
Bout Action Score
Each individual fight receives an action score based on the combined output of both fighters. This is a shared score — both participants receive the same rating for that bout.
Fighter Action Score
A fighter's career action score is the time-decayed average of all their bout action scores, with a bonus for high finish rates.
Bout Action: What Goes Into It
Positive Contributions (up to 100 points)
| Factor | Max Points | How It's Earned |

| Knockdowns | 20 | Combined knockdowns. Each knockdown = 10 points |
| Submission Attempts | 10 | Combined sub attempts. Each attempt = 5 points |
| Standing Ratio | 15 | Percentage of strikes at distance. 80%+ = full points |
| Head Strikes | 10 | Percentage targeting the head. 60%+ = full points |
| Pace | 15 | Strikes per minute. 15+ strikes/min = full points |
| Finish Bonus | 15/10 | KO/TKO finish = +15, Submission finish = +10 |
| Mutual KDs | 5 | Bonus when both fighters score a knockdown |
Penalties (subtracted from total)
| Penalty | Max Deduction | When It Applies |
|---|---|---|
| Lay & Pray | -15 | 60+ seconds of control time with fewer than 1 ground strike per minute |
| Point Fighting | -10 | More than 50% distance strikes AND fewer than 5 strikes per minute |
Fighter Action: Career Score
A fighter's overall action score combines:
- Time-decayed average of all their bout action scores (recent fights weighted more heavily)
- Sample confidence — pulled toward 50 for fighters with fewer than 5 fights
- Finish rate bonus — up to +10 points for fighters who finish opponents (100% finish rate = +10)
career_action = 50 + (time_decayed_avg - 50) x confidence + finish_bonus
